Overtake it! Privacy policy

Effective 25 October 2026

This policy covers Overtake it!, the racing game made by Michael Dubbeldam in the Netherlands, in every version: the Android app on Google Play, the browser game at overtakeitgame.com (formerly overtakeit.dubbeldam.net) and the version on itch.io.

In short: the game has no accounts, asks for no name or location (and for an email address only if you want a reply to feedback you send, or for a license code), shows no ads and contains no third-party analytics or tracking. To make the game better it sends anonymous gameplay data to our own server, as described below, and you can switch that off at any time.

Gameplay data (telemetry)

While you play, the game sends the following to our own server at overtakeitgame.com (older versions of the app send it to overtakeit.dubbeldam.net, the same server):

The server does not store your IP address and the game sets no cookies. The data is used only to improve the game; it is not sold, shared with others or used for advertising. It is kept on our own server without a set time limit, because comparing how the game is played over time is what makes it useful.

Feedback

While gameplay data is switched on, the game can ask how a race was, and the main menu has a Feedback and feature requests button. What you tap or write there is sent only when you send it, together with the gameplay data above and under the same random player ID, and is kept and used in the same way. Please leave your name and other personal details out of what you write. With gameplay data switched off, the game does not ask for feedback.

After sending feedback you can, if you like, enter your email address to get a reply. It is stored with that feedback and used only to answer it: never for anything else, not for newsletters or advertising, and it is not shared with anyone. Email us if you would like it removed.

Switching it off

At the bottom of the main menu, untick Collect gameplay data. From then on the game sends nothing more, also in later sessions, until you tick it again. The choice is kept on your device; after clearing the app's data, or in another browser, switch it off there again.

Under the GDPR the basis for this is our legitimate interest in making the game work well. Because the data has no name or contact details (unless you left your email address with feedback), we usually cannot tell which data is yours, but if you would like it removed or have a question about it, email us and we will help where we can.

Purchases

In the Android app the full game can be bought once through Google Play. The payment is handled entirely by Google; we never see your payment details. The game only learns from Google Play whether the full game has been bought. Google's own privacy policy applies to the purchase: policies.google.com/privacy.

On the website and on itch.io the full game comes with a license code. With the code we keep the email address it was sent to (to send it again if you lose it) and, for each device that uses it, the game's random player id and when it last checked the code, so a code is used on a few devices at most. We use these only for the license and never share them. Email us if you would like them removed; the code then stops working.

Stored on your device

The game keeps your progress, best times, settings, tracks you design and whether you own the full game on your own device, so you can carry on where you left off. This stays on your device and is removed when you clear the app's data, uninstall it or clear the site data in your browser. Videos and replay projects you save go only where you save them.

Children

The game is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
